Zakiya is the newest member of the BID team – and hit the ground running.
She had barely started in her role as marketing and events assistant when she found herself completely immersed in the Sunderland Food and Drink Festival – and she couldn’t have been happier about it.
Zakiya studied Business at Sunderland College before taking up a role as part of the social media team at Hays Travel.
She spent four years with the leading travel company, being involved in numerous projects and initiatives such as working alongside SAFC and being a key member of the DEIB group, but decided she wanted a new challenge and then found out about the new opportunity at Sunderland’s BIDs.
It’s something she has embraced with relish, loving the day-to-day challenges and the fact that there are so many different aspects to the job.
Zakiya is used to multi-tasking – as the eldest of eight children she prides herself on being organised and having lots of patience!
As part of the BIDs team she will be involved in all aspects of events and marketing across the city and building on her existing skills.
