One of Sunderland’s longest-standing businesses took time out after being invited to a very special event at 10 Downing Street.

This year marks 44 years of business in Sunderland for Collinson’s Jewellers, and Lawrence Redmond and Harry Collinson Snr were invited by the British Watch and Clock Makers Guild to be part of a delegation to the Prime Minister’s residence to view the John Harrison H4 timepiece created in 1736 for the race of longitude.

Harry and Lawrence from Collinson’s Jewellers were recognised for their long-standing skills in the industry and were one of a number of VIP guests.

"It was a privilege and honour to be invited from our small family business in Sunderland after 44 years trading and approaching my 58th year of watch & clock making,” said Harry Collinson Snr.

Lawrence Redmond is now learning the trade from his Father-in-law.

"It's great to be part of the BWCMG to be invited to Downing Street and previously having the honour of visiting the clock of Big Ben. Watch & clock repairs are a specialist trade and to be surrounded by artisans of the watch & clock industry was inspirational and enhances the skills I am learning under my tutelage with Harry Collinson Snr,” he said.
