NORTH EAST people are being asked to ensure that youngsters across the city have an “eggciting” Easter, by donating to a worthy cause.
Sunderland’s the Bridges is sponsoring Nation Radio’s Easter Egg Appeal, which is aiming to ensure that children who may otherwise not get any traditional chocolate treats, don’t miss out.
Shoppers are being asked to donate an egg and take it to one of the centre’s donation boxes, with the eggs being distributed to children by the Salvation Army.
Donation boxes have been set up at the Bridges’ Customer Service desk and also at Hotel Chocolat and Iceland.
Donations will be accepted until Thursday 17 April and then will be given out by the Salvation Army in time for Easter.
Karen Eve, Centre Director at the Bridges, is hoping people will get behind the campaign.
“We know how generous our shoppers are and we hope that when they are out shopping for their Easter eggs, they will consider buying an extra one and popping it into one of our collection boxes,” she said.
“It will mean that we will be able to help Nation Radio and the Salvation Army in making Easter a really happy time for young people in the city.”
Simon Grundy of Nation Radio North East thanked the Bridges for supporting the campaign.
“We are delighted that the Bridges has come on board to help us ensure that youngsters across the region who might not otherwise get an Easter Egg, get one,” he said. “We look forward to working with the Salvation Army who will ensure that all the generous donations get straight to the children who need them.”
