HELP SUNDERLAND MUSIC CITY RADIO
CREATE THE SOUND OF THE CITY

05 February 2026

Sunderland Music City Radio is turning up the volume on local creativity and inviting
producers, musicians, and keen local people to help shape the sound of the station.

Ahead of its launch, the brand-new online station, streaming via musiccity.uk,
dedicated to championing Sunderland music, has issued an open call for custom-made
station idents (jingles) that will become part of its oCicial on-air sound.

At the same time, the station is also calling on Sunderland-based musicians and artists
to submit their music for airplay consideration, helping to build a playlist that truly
reflects the sound of the city.

The initiative gives people the chance to contribute directly to the station’s audio
identity and have their music and work played throughout the day on the radio station.

Jingle call-out

The station is looking for a bank of short station jingles to be played between songs all
day long. Contributors are encouraged to experiment, show their skills and have fun.

  • Maximum 10 seconds (ideal length 4–7 seconds)
  • Original sound only, audio must be newly created - no copyrighted material
  • Every ID must include the read: “You’re listening to, Sunderland Music City
    Radio”
  • Format: MP3
  • Submit via email to [email protected] with the subject line: Radio – jingle
  • Make it fun, make as many as you like, and show us what you can do

Music submission call-out

Sunderland Music City Radio is actively building its music library and wants to hear
from artists and bands from Sunderland, or with strong links to the city.
Musicians are invited to submit their tracks for potential inclusion on the station.

  • Who can apply: Sunderland-based artists or those with clear connections to the
    city
  • Preferred format: MP3
  • Submit via email to [email protected] with the subject line: Radio – music

A song will be selected at random to be the first ever song played on the radio station. To be in with a chance of being the first play make sure you submit your music by Friday
27th February at midday, and we’ll announce the first song on our launch day.

The goal is to create a platform that showcases the depth, diversity and talent of
Sunderland’s music scene to listeners locally and around the world. And to do that, we
need the people of Sunderland’s help.

Frankie Francis, Music OCicer for Sunderland Music City, said:
“Sunderland is full of musical and creative talent, and this is about giving people a real
chance to be part of the station’s sound. We don’t just want to play the sound of the city, we want the community to help create it.”

The project reflects Sunderland Music City’s wider mission to support local talent,
nurture skills and create opportunities across the music and creative industries.

Sunderland Music City Radio has been backed by The Rank Foundation as part of their
Profit for Good programme, which has seen them fund the development phase and
initial set-up costs of the station.
