Sunderland action man has race in store

A SUNDERLAND store manager is hoping to add to his flurry of successes by continuing his role as a charity champion.

Steve Snowball, manager of the city centre’s Argos store, will be coming out from behind the counter this weekend to take part in the Sunderland City 10k run.

And for Steve this is the latest in a number of sporting challenges which has seen him raise money for charity.

“Argos stores across the North East adopt a charity every two years,” said Steve, 40.

“We have just completed our time with the Alzheimer’s Society where we raised more than £70,000 across the region and now we’re raising money for Macmillan.

“Our aim is to try and reach £100,000 over the next two years across our 28 stores.”

This is the latest in a long line of races that Steve and his colleagues have been involved with, including the Great North Run, The Pier to Pier race between South Shields and Roker and the Coast to Coast cycle ride.

Steve is the only member of his team taking part this Sunday (May 3) but his staff are firmly behind him and will be getting on board with other challenges throughout the year.

“This is a great event for Sunderland and I’m really delighted to be taking part,” said Steve, who is also a member of the Board of Sunderland Business Improvement District.

Ken Dunbar, Chief Executive of the BID, said it was fantastic to see traders in the city getting involved with major events.

“Steve is not only a great supporter of the BID but he’s passionate about being involved with events that put Sunderland on the map,” said Ken.

“I hope he has a great run and raises lots of money for the chosen charity.”
