STILL TIME TO ROCK AND ROLL IN SUNDERLAND

23 August 2022

PEOPLE in Sunderland can still show they know how to roll and keep adults and kids happy at the same time.

With the August Bank Holiday weekend on the horizon, families may be wondering how to keep their youngsters amused.

And a great solution is to head down to the roller skating rink at Keel Square, which will only be in the city for a few more weeks.

The rink, part of a programme of entertainment created by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council, is open every day from 11 am to 8 pm until 4 September.

There is also time to catch up with a range of children’s characters who will be appearing on 23, 29 and 30 August, where young skaters can share the floor with everyone from princesses to fairies.

As part of the Summer in the City activities, visitors can also still enjoy the entertainment at the pop-up park, also in Keel Square and use the Sunderland Experience app to take part in the Jurassic Jungle AR trail.

Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, hopes people will make the most of the activities on offer.

“As we head towards the end of the summer it becomes more and more challenging to find ways of keeping youngsters entertained,” she said.

“So the activities taking place in the city centre are a great way for people of all ages to enjoy themselves before it’s time to return to school and work.”

The roller rink is suitable for experienced skaters and those trying it for the first time.

Tickets for the roller rink cost £10 for adults, £8 for five to 17-year-olds, £4 for those aged four and under and £28 for a family ticket and prices include the hire of roller boots, kneepads and helmets. No advance booking is necessary.

There are also a number of options available for anyone interested in a private party at the rink.
