ParkingPerx recognised for intelligent and collaborative approach in prestigious award shortlist

15 September 2021

Dragons’ Den backed app ParkingPerx has caught the attention of The British Parking Awards, organised by Parking Review, in which it has been shortlisted for the ‘Intelligent Parking Award’.

The Award, sponsored by Alpha Parking, specifically recognises smarter approaches to the planning and management of parking in the UK. The judges are looking for examples of 'joined-up' thinking that delivers solutions to on-street and off-street needs as they assess the successful finalists in the coming weeks. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Friday 24th September at the Royal Lancaster in London.

The brainchild of founder Chris Reed, and backed by BBC Dragon’s Den former Dragon, Jenny Campbell, the ground-breaking loyalty solution aims to be a driving force in tackling barriers to consumer spending on the high street.

Chris Reed, founder of ParkingPerx, said:

We believe that only a truly collaborative approach between all the stakeholders in a location will bring about sustainable change to our high streets, and so we are absolutely delighted to have been recognised for our joined-up approach to addressing parking challenges - and on such a prestigious national platform. Our work in Sunderland would not have been possible without the support and commitment of the Sunderland BID and Sunderland Council, not to mention the fantastic merchants who have joined the app in its pilot location.

“We eagerly await the final results of the awards ceremony later in the month.”

Sharon Appleby, Sunderland BID’s Chief Executive, said:

"We are absolutely delighted that ParkingPerx has been shortlisted for this national award. As the first city in the UK to launch the scheme it is a recognition for not only the innovation that exists within the North East, but also for the collaboration between partners including our BID team, Sunderland City Council, RingGo and all the vital merchants who sign up and back this app to cement and grow this scheme in the city. Ideas like ParkingPerx are just what we need to encourage people to come to the city centre and to return regularly, and it is fantastic that it is being noticed nationally across the industry."

The loyalty solution is expanding in to Kendal in Autumn 2021 and the rollout will continue across UK locations in 2022. Its sister application TravelPerx will launch in January 2021 in its inaugural locations in Scotland, rewarding consumers with free travel on public transport in exchange for shopping on their local high street.
