A New Venue for this year’s Sunderland Christmas Lights Switch On

This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On event is officially on the move as it sets up camp at a brand new position at the Crowtree Site. The annual event has seen its audience grow significantly over the past few years and looks forward to welcoming its biggest visitor figures yet on Thursday 13 November.

Cllr John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture said: "Our annual Christmas Lights Switch On signals the start of a wide range of festive celebrations across the city.

This fantastic family occasion is always fun and I encourage everyone, young and old to come along this year and join in the count-down to the Mayor and his special guests turning on the city centre Christmas lights. This annual celebration also helps to launch late night shopping in the city centre which will continue right up until Christmas."

Beginning at 6pm, the evening will entertain with all things festive, from live music to a spectacular firework display. The fun will be wrapped up not with a bow, but with a special celebrity guest appearance for that all-important flick of the switch at 7pm.

Chris Alexander, Chief Operating Officer at Sunderland Live, said ‘the Christmas Lights Switch On event has been growing in popularity and this year we’re excited to launch Sunderland’s Christmas in the heart of the city centre’.

Full event details, including the identity of the special switch on guest, will be revealed closer to the event date. For further information on Christmas in Sunderland visit www.sunderlandlive.co.uk
