Egg-citing Easter family fun

10 April 2017

Disney’s favourite princesses will be gracing the halls of Sunderland College for an action-packed Easter event designed to entertain people of all ages.

The college’s multi-million pound Arts Academy at Bede Campus is hosting a family fun day to give parents, carers and children the chance to take part in some creative activities over the Easter holidays.

Disney princesses including Belle, Elsa, Anna, Ariel, Snow White and Rapunzel, as well as Sunny the Seagull from Sun FM and SAFC’s mascots Samson and Delilah, will be on hand to greet families on Wednesday 12 April from 10am to 3pm.

There will be a host of activities on offer for youngsters including Disney princess and superhero ballet, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ drama workshops, Easter egg art, and hip hop and street dance.

Little ones are also invited to the Arts Academy recording studio to sing some of their favourite Disney songs and they can even take their recordings home on CD.

And there will be plenty of offerings for adults too, with 12 sessions showcasing the broad spectrum of creative arts evening courses which start after the Easter holidays.

Activities include dance, fashion and textiles, life drawing, music, painting and drawing, photography, ceramics, and public speaking workshops, and free sessions in visual effects will be delivered from the Arts Academy’s NextGen Skills Academy studio.

The fun day will also feature jewellery and silver ring making workshops which the college is introducing as new adult evening courses, and sessions in the art of floristry, led by award-winning florist Katie-Jane Hermes.

Sheree Rymer, curriculum leader for creative arts, said: “This is an inspiring time for creative arts in Sunderland as momentum is building for the City of Culture 2021 bid. There are so many new opportunities for people to take part in cultural projects and activities, and we are keen to play our part. We want to engage with people of all ages and involve them in creative arts, so the idea behind our Easter Family Fun Day is community driven.

“There are lots of exciting and lively activities to keep children entertained, while their parents or carers try out fun and educational taster sessions. It’s a great opportunity to have a go at something a little different, and if people are keen to sign-up to one of our short courses, there will be staff on hand to talk about the options available.”

Free refreshments will be available for children at the event. For more information and to book onto a session, visit www.sunderlandcollege.ac.uk/familyfunday
