LOOK FOR THE BOOK | Sunderland Seafront

Saturday 10 October | 10 am – 12 noon
Roker & Seaburn | FREE

Books are hiding along Sunderland Seafront… are you ready to find them?

Grab the kids, bring the dog, invite a friend or simply come along for a wander. Look for a Book is a free morning of books, exploring, creativity, conversation and fresh sea air, with something for adults and children alike.

We’ll be hiding books between our four Little Libraries, and if you find one, it’s yours to take home and enjoy!

Our Little Libraries are at:

📍 The Seaburn Inn
📍 The Tram Shelter
📍 Adventure Sunderland
📍 The Marina

Follow the Book Trail

Take a stroll along the seafront and keep your eyes peeled for books waiting to be discovered, hidden by the National Literacy Trust and volunteers.

Find one you fancy? Pick it up and take it home. Simple as that.

Meet our Temporary Book Keepers

Look out for the Temporary Book Keepers from Atlas Theatre Company CIC at the Little Libraries.

Stop for a chat, talk books, join in and expect a little theatrical fun along the way!

Pick up, swap or share a book

Sunderland Literacy Aid will be popping up at two locations:

📍Fausto, Roker
📍The Seaburn Inn, Seaburn

Through their new World of Books Foundation-funded Book Giving and Literacy Access programme, there’ll be books and activities for all ages, whether you’re an avid reader, an occasional page-turner, or simply looking for something new to try.

Add YOUR story to our Community Book

We’re also creating something rather special on the day, and everyone can be part of it.

Write a few words, draw a picture, share a reading memory, recommend a favourite book or tell us simply:

“I read because…”

You can create your contribution on the day or bring something along to add.

All those different voices, drawings, and stories will come together in a Community Book, which WTTB will publish and showcase at Culture House, Chapter 13, and Fulwell Community Library.

So your little contribution could become part of Sunderland’s reading story.

Take 10 minutes for you

As 10 October is World Mental Health Day, we’ll also be encouraging everyone to take 10 minutes to read at 10 am.

Find a book. Find a spot with a sea view. Take ten.

10 minutes to read. 10 minutes just for you.

And make a morning of it…

There’s no set route and no rush.

Find a book. Walk the coast. Meet people. Have a chat. Get creative. Grab a cuppa. Read by the sea.

Why not stop for coffee, breakfast or something tasty at one of our brilliant seafront businesses while you’re here?

Come for the book hunt, come for the walk, come to create something, or simply come for a cuppa and a chat.

And if you find one of our hidden books, take a photo and share your discovery with us. We’d love to see who finds them and where the stories travel next.

ARE YOU READY TO LOOK FOR A BOOK?

Find it. Read it. Share it. Keep the story going.
