The biggest street food competition in the world will be parking up at The Fire Station's Parade Ground. 

Launched in 2009, the British Street Food Awards is all about recognising the best of the 10,000 new food heroes who are selling food on our streets – and the Northern Heat is coming to Sunderland for the first time in May.

This month's Sunniside Food Market is on the move! The British Street Food Awards are being hosted at The Fire Station, so find Sunniside Food Market there on 24 May!

Set in the summer of 1984 – Margaret Thatcher is in power, and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support. 
 
But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a minibus to make their donation in person. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.

Stalls include handmade gifts, art, delicious homebakes, gourmet sweet treats, photography, keepsakes, pet accessories, pamper products and so much more!

Save the Date...

Artisan food and drink market, in conjunction with Local Heroes, will be held on the second Sunday of each month going forward. Visitors can wander around the many stalls and purchase from a range of local independent traders offering the very best produce, from crafted gifts to specialist breads and cakes, organic vegetables, charcuterie and more!
